Alphabet Tree

Materials:

  1. precut alphabet letters
  2. branch from outdoors (or green and brown construction paper)
  3. rocks or sand (or tape)
  4. bucket (or a wall)
  5. tape, glue or ribbon

Directions:

  1. Cut out or purchase one set (26 letters) of alphabet letters.
  2. Find a branch outdoors (or make a tree trunk and branches out of brown construction paper).
  3. Anchor the tree branch in a bucket of sand (or post a construction paper tree on the wall).
  4. Use tape, glue or ribbon to hang each letter on your tree.
  5. Learning ideas: choose a "letter of the day" to focus on; have children identify each letter and the sound it makes.
  6. Extension: Read "The Alphabet Tree" by Leo Leonni or "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" by Bill Martin, Jr.
