Yarn-and-Glue Ornaments

Materials:

  1. newspaper (or white paper)
  2. pencil or marker
  3. waxed paper
  4. stapler
  5. yarn
  6. paper cup or small rinsed milk carton
  7. glue
  8. water

Directions:

  1. Cover your work area with newspaper.
  2. Draw a simple shape on a piece of newspaper (such as a square or circle). Draw a design inside the shape; make sure every line connects to another line.
  3. Place waxed paper over the design.
  4. Staple the waxed paper and newspaper together.
  5. Cut a piece of yarn double the size of the outside edge of the shape.
  6. In the paper cup or milk carton, mix up a glue solution of 2/3 glue and 1/3 water.
  7. Dip the yarn in the glue solution. Squeeze it.
  8. Wrap the yarn around the outside of the shape twice.
  9. Cut, dip and place yarn along the lines on the inside of the shape. Make sure each piece of yarn overlaps with other pieces so the sculpture will stick together.
  10. Let the sculpture dry overnight. Remove it from the waxed paper and hang up with a string.
